Antioch: Mercury spill forces neighborhood street closure

Published Tuesday March 14

ANTIOCH — Contra Costa County perilous materials workers were working with federal and state staff to decontaminate a stretch of roadway closed to traffic after a mercury spill Monday.

Around eleven in the morning the county learned the spill was found in multiple locations on 2200 block of Manzanita Way and closed it to traffic between Sycamore Dr. and Mahogany Way, county risky materials specialist Trisha Asuncion said.

“We can’t quantify how much was released because it is spanning a big area,” Asuncion commented Mon evening. “We are looking at working through the night.”
